What is a Lay Midwife?
A "lay midwife" is a person who may or may not have had formal training in midwifery. They deliver at home and may or may not have medical backup and are not licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. Neither of our midwives are lay midwives. Both or our midwives are "certified" nurse midwives.
Midwives are able to provide in-depth education throughout your pregnancy visits regarding a multitude of topics. They have a wonderful background in dealing with prenatal care. Fortunately, our midwives do not have a surgery schedule or a gynecological practice to take time away from our obstetric patients. They are able to devote their full time activities to teaching and labor support in delivery. Please do not hesitate to use their vast educational services.
