Do You Have Recurrent Vaginal Infections?
Our practice is offering the latest technology in the diagnosis of vaginitis. This technology uses DNA to help diagnose vaginal infections. Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is one of the most common reasons a woman visits her gynecologist. It has been linked with a 40-50% increase in prematurity and with low-birth weight in babies. Yet accurate diagnosis is often difficult. Self-medication or mixed infections hamper traditional microscopic diagnoses.
The AFFIRM DNA probe test helps deliver the best possible patient care. AFFIRM rapidly identifies and differentiates yeast from BV and trichomonas in a single sample. The results are available in less than one day. This technology uses the DNA of organisms and determines their genetic "finger-prints", much as is done in crime labs. We feel as though this technology will markedly improve our ability to diagnose women that are high risk for BV as well as those with recurrent yeast infections that truly may not be yeast. Please feel free to call our office for further details regarding this new technology.
