What is vulvar cancer?

Cancer of the vulva accounts for approximately 5% of malignancies of the lower female genital tract, ranking it fourth in frequency after cancers of the uterus, ovary and cervix. HPV is the most common cause. Most vulvar cancers are squamous cell cancers. Diagnosis is done by exam, biopsy and we do that in our office. Treatment type depends upon the stage of cancer. Irritation or itching is the most common symptom. Other symptoms are vulvar redness, pigmentation, bleeding. Hence, any of these abnormal symptoms needs evaluation and treatment!
