If I’m in my late 40’s, have my “tubes tied”, and have never had any abnormal pap test, it’s OK to skip the yearly “female” exam - isn’t it?
A The gynecologist does much more than just a Pap at the recommended yearly pelvic exam. We look for external abnormalities, check for uterine fibroids or any enlargement of the ovaries, and counsel about anticipated perimenopausal changes, to name just a few. For women of all ages, a yearly pelvic exam provides an important screening for optimal health maintenance.
