Should I get a flu shot during pregnancy?

Pregnant women are more at risk for contracting the flu than the general population due to pregnancy affecting the immune system. It is the current recommendation to immunize pregnant women with the yearly flu vaccine. It is also recommended for pregnant women to be vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. Because the non-H1N1 flu is much more prevalent than the H1N1 flu at this time, efforts to obtain the regular flu shot should take priority. This can be done at the primary care physician’s office.
