When can a breast MRI be helpful?

The American Cancer Society (ACS) quidelines recommend an annual screening with breast MRI in addition to screening mammography for women with a genetic or family history of breast cancer. Women with a personal history of breast cancer should also consider annual screening breast MRI and mammo, but this is not an ACS guideline, unfortunately. Despite these recommendations, patients must check with their insurance companies to ensure these studies are covered on their plan.
