Do I need a pap after a hysterectomy?
Years ago, it was recommended that, once you had a hysterectomy, you did not need anymore pap smears. Now that we know the virus that causes cervical cancer (HPV or the Human Papilloma Virus) can also infect the vagina and cause cancer, it is recommended to have pap smears every two years in low risk women and every year in high risk women.
