What is the fetal fibronectin test?

Fetal fibronectin is a protein that is produced by the fetal membranes. It is normally present between 16-20 weeks of gestation. A fetal fibronectin should not be collected before 24 weeks and after 34 weeks of gestation. If the test is negative, there is a greater than 95% likelihood of not delivering within 14 days.
