Will Depo Provera cause me to gain weight?

A Most women are concerned with their weight and certainly do no want to voluntarily take medication that may cause them to gain weight. Depo Provera is an injectable contraceptive that may have weight gain associated with it. Not all women who use this medication experience disproportionate weight gain, i.e. Many women gain weight every year due to diet, lack of exercise and decreasing metabolism. Research involving women of multiple ethnicities revealed that those prone to excessive and continued weight gain with Depo usage will report increased appetite and a weight gain of 5% of their baseline within 6 months on initiating use of this medication. Others at risk have a BMI < 30 and/or have had at least one child.
