Can I have cats during pregnancy?
Despite some popular myths, having cats during pregnancy is quite all right, just as long as some else takes care of the litterbox. If a pregnant mother were to clean the litterbox herself, she has the risk of coming into contact with an organism called Toxoplasma gondii, which is present in some infected cat feces. This organism can cause a condition called toxoplasmosis, which is extremely detrimental to a developing baby. However, this organism can only be obtained with contact of the cat feces; if someone else changes the litterbox, cats are permissible during pregnancy.
