What is a Physician Assistant (PA)?

A physician assistant is a health care provider who works under the supervision of a physician. PA’s can evaluate and treat patients, order testing and prescribe medications. PA’s also provide patient education and instruction. PA’s work in all medical and surgical specialties, including primary care, emergency medicine and obstetrics. Many physicians utilize PA’s as assistants in the operating room.
