What is a Certified Nurse Midwife?

A nurse midwife is an individual educated in the disciplines of nursing and midwifery, who possesses evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American College of Nurse Midwives. In other words, a nurse midwife is a registered nurse who continues her education in the field of nurse midwifery either on a certificate or master's degree level, passes the certified exam given by the American College of Nurse Midwifery, and is licensed by the medical board here in the state of Pennsylvania. They are trained to provide prenatal care, do normal deliveries, postpartum care, and well-women gynecological care.
